Freetown's Lungi International is operated by Sierra Leone Airports Authority and is located across the Sierra Leone River, eight miles to the north of downtown Freetown.

On arrival, passengers proceed by bus (with ferry) to downtown Freetown - in addition, the shortly to be reintroduced hovercraft service will be available between Maheru Beach and Aberdeen.

Purpose built for the transitting passenger and minimum rest airline crews, the nearby Lungi Airport Hotel is conveniently located within a few hundred yards of the airport passenger terminal.

Through the Sierra Leone Airports Authority (SLAA), the terminal building has undergone improvements over the past few years and the runway has been upgraded to accommodate all sizes of aircraft. Says SLAA's General Manager Donald Bull "The airport is now more responsive to customer needs" further stating that additional phases of investment by SLAA relating to air traffic, security and safety equipment along with overall airport infrastructure are currently planned.
